#CheckTheNumbersB**ch: How To Use Social Media Insights

Hey y'all hey!

Ok, so for those of you like, "Um, what is this title about?" It's because in addition to being content savvy I'm a fan of petty and pop culture and lived for the moment that Maxwell responded to a fan that said his records weren't selling with the following DM.

😂😂😂 So, because we're talking about analytics, which involves numbers,I thought, "Why not?" Lol.

I'm sure if you're a content creator or blogger you're familiar with Google analytics and other analytic apps and to be honest, they can sometimes be intimidating and seem quite complicated.

Luckily, our fave social media platforms realize how integral they are in marketing, driving traffic, branding and more. Analytics tools and insights are now built-in to social media platforms. Which can be super effective when put to use correctly.

Before we delve into this let's discuss some key terms you need to know when analyzing these insights.

Impressions: The total number of times your posts have been seen. Reach: The number of unique viewers. Meaning, it doesn't include one follower clicking your content multiple times. This keeps track of how many individuals are viewing your content. Engagement: The number of times viewers actually interacted with your posts, i.e: commented, liked, retweeted, etc.

While I have a twitter, I honestly don't use it as effectively as should when it comes to driving traffic to my blog 😕. I honestly just go on there to throw shade, vent and repeat. I normally just use Instagram, but I'll show you below how their analytics (insights) are setup and tell you how you can use them to improve your content and content's visibility.

Ok, so the above photo is what Twitter's insights look like.These are just photos I posted, which don't drive traffic back to anything; so as far as analyzing how much traffic is going to my blog, this is pointless; however, it does give insight on what aesthetics my audience is drawn to. 543 impressions and 149 total engagements isn't bad. A marketing/content savvy person would compare these insights to other images they posted and see which images got the most impressions and most importantly, engagement.

You could then use the image that got the best numbers as a blue print for future images. You could do the same to analyze the engagement you receive from the links you post. These numbers allow you to see how your audience receives your content, if they're receptive at all and where YOUR audience best receives your content. The majority of your audience may be drawn to one social media platform than the other and that's ok. Once you find out where they are honey you gotta go over there and give them what they want. They may not know they want it yet, but they do and you have it, so serve.

I am a female blogger who curates content about culture, fashion and industry tips. Henceforth, my audience probably isn't a 37-year-old male, who loves sneakers and is a hip hop head. My audience is more than likely...myself, young women and men who create content, are interested in fashion, etc. I'm aware that MY target audience isn't following me on Twitter...YET, but they do follow me on Instagram.

Unlike Twitter, to view insights on Instagram you must turn your page into a business account and to do this, you have to create a Facebook page for your business and or brand.

Here are some insights from Instagram below:

1. Insights of my Top Posts from the year.

Of all of my posts, this photo received the most engagement. Not only do I have an idea as to what type of images catch my followers attention, but I've used these insights to make decisions such as: "What photo should be my avi?" Sounds trivial, right?

But using this photo as my avi has gained me followers because people who saw this photo floating around and wondered, "Whose the girl in that photo?" Will now see my avi and follow me because this image peaked interest. It also helped me decide what photos I'll use for my press kit. Also, should I attempt to go viral again, I now have a blue print:

Bold colors

Tell a story

Have a BOMB caption

Add something relatable (everyone loves the book pictured, The Alchemist.

This was my Top post for the month. I concluded that scenery, contrast and composition and my highlight being on fleek caused a lot of great feedback lol. Also, people loved my trousers. So should I want to create an attention grabbing look; I now know that bright trousers may just do the trick, haha.

This was the least engaging photo for this month. This is no surprise, I didn't even put a caption for this photo.

While I already would never use this visual to accompany a post, I now have confirmation that I shouldn't do this because, well, I checked the numbers. People are more prone to click the link to your content when accompanied by an image, so why not use the insights to assist you in picking what image you'll use???

The built-in social media insights are definitely free and effective tools you need to put to use to increase the visibility of your content.

You can even see how many link clicks receive. I mean, it's lit y'all!

The tools are right there. As I find ways to use them to the best of my ability, I will continue to extend a branch of knowledge to my boos!
