New York, the one place you'll find an unfathomable amount of women, both young and old, sprinting to trains, meetings, work, etc. all while wearing heels.
Surviving through all the hustle and bustle of New York, is a sport; so I thought it would be fun to piece together an outfit that embodies the chic meets street feel of the "concrete jungle."
I paired a bright yellow Adidas jersey I thrifted, with a silkm silver skirt I thrifted and a pair of black, patent-leather Nine West booties...yes, I thrifted those too for just $5 lol. The thrift-store is a God send, ya' girl got 4 pairs of shoes for $30 *hits schmoney dance*. Lastly, I sported a black body suit under the ensemble, for a retro look and more importantly to avoid showing my ass in my mini-skirt, literally lol.
As I walked the sidewalks of Harlem with my roomie/home girl, I couldn't help but feel like Sporty Spice...GIRL POWER! There's something empowering about going the rebellious route with an outfit and saying, "Hmmmm, I could go this route and pair this skirt with something super feminine or pair this jersey with some kicks, butttttt I just don't wanna, ok?"
I've never thought of my self or my style to be super "girly," (whatever that means) nor have I thought of myself as a Tomboy. You can find me right in the middle; somewhere painting my nails while watching "Boyz in the Hood" or the 'Breakfast Club," gulping a 40oz out of a champagne glass or downing Muscato out of the bottle; or singing my heart out to Mariah Carey one minute and rapping an ATCQ oldie word-for-word the next. I'm a little bit of Sporty and a little bit of Posh all rolled up into one.
Ok, enough of that odd analysis of myself that no one asked for lol, below are some photos of my sporty-chic fit, enjoy! Also, any updates on you guys' Persistence Journals, don't leave me hanging, let me know how your Glo' Up journey is coming along in the comments. For those you who have no idea what I'm talking about, refer to my last You Betta Werk post here.
