Hey baes!

So, I know I normally do outfit posts on Wednesdays, but I decided I’d spoil you guys with the three-for-one special. In just one post I’ll be giving you outfit deets, providing a restaraunt review and…..DUN DUN DUN, the moment you’ve all been waiting for; I’ll be updating you on my Glo’ Up journey.

Yesterday morning my bestfriend/headache took me out for brunch, because lately that’s all I seem to want to eat. We headed to Decatur where we tried Sun In My Belly for the first time. I ordered the Alison’s Famous Pimento Cheese Omelette and my boyfriend ordered the Kirkwood Breakfast. First of all, whatever they do to their bacon is ordained by the LORDT, oh my gosh that bacon was so crisp, yet juicy and my omelette made my tastebuds dance. Here’s the thing, y’all know I like to be honest aka keep it real, I was hungry about five minutes after eating my food. While the food was certainly delicious, it was not filling...and ya girl can eat!

After chowing down I forced my boyfriend to take pictures of me in the lobby of the restaurant. I just love the rustic/minimal decor. While I certainly won’t be going back again to order a meal the place was cute enough to frequent for mimosas with the clique.

After a great morning, I headed downtown to meet up with hip-hop/trap engineer, K.Lee. One of my best-friends referred me to a record label(Mean Streets) she works for as a writer (for websites/press-releases, not music lol, one day though), after my first three writing assignments for Dj Drama, Canon and a few of their artists, I was hired to write for K.Lee’s website; hence a need for a Glo’ Up update.

It wasn’t until recently that I really knew my worth and value as a writer/publicist; I’ve always been passionate about the two but for some reason I didn’t know how to go about profiting from these passions independently. To be honest, with you guys and myself it was more so fear than me not knowing. I was afraid of people saying “Who does she think she is?” “Oh, you want us to pay? We can get so-and-so to do that for free?” But lucky for me I’ve grown up and a sista’s gotta get her bills paid.

I feel like there are a lot of creatives who feel like sell outs once they attach money to their craft, but if your craft brings any type of value to one’s life, you deserve to be paid for it...period. People won’t hesitate to ask for your services, so don’t hesitate to tell them your worth and don’t hesitate to promote your talent. After my first writing gig for Mean Street Studios, I text my friend to tell her should they need anymore writing services give them my contact and I even let it be known that I do press-kits, media alerts, pitch, etc….SELL YOURSELF, someone is bound to buy it.

On top of getting paid to do things I love to do I was also featured on Beyondclassicallybeautiful.com, a website featuring black women making social impacts and defying today’s beauty standards. I’ve been following their page for a while now and I’d always see the smart, beautiful, enterprising black women they featured wishing I could be that cool lol and to go on their website and see that they saw the same thing in me as the women I once admired via my phone...the feeling is beyond words to be honest.

Since my Glo’ Up journey I’ve had photos go ‘somewhat’ viral on Tumblr and Pinterest, just a few hundred reblogs, nothing too crazy, but it’s a start; I’ve gained 100(+) Instagram followers and I’ve added some awesome talents to my network. I’m currently in talks with one of my favorite stylist about meeting up for coffee, which is a big deal for me because I’ve always been scary about approaching people but I realized I have to if I want to meet like minded people.

Lastly, I can’t believe I almost forgot this one, Lady Hustle Mag, a publication focused on female entrepreneurs, not only watched my video but they liked my photos and under one of my pictures they left a comment commending me on my journey. I was recently discussing with my boyfriend that I sometimes get discouraged because while my followers go up, I’m getting less likes on my content but once I noticed that the content I curate is catching the attention of people in places I aspire to be, it was affirmed that I am on the right track.

Oh, and for those of you wondering if I lost any weight like I said I would, the answer is no.

Here is my closing point, once I saw my worth and let go of that fear of people judging me for doing so, so many opportunities opened up. Let go of those fears, stop holding yourself back and put yourself out there! You got dis boo!

Have you began your Glo’UP journey yet? If so what all have you accomplished in 2016? If not, what are you waiting for?
