  • What God Has For You, Is For You, Sis

And these are the three commandments to live by when making that transition from employee to BAWSE status.

Focus On Your Focus:

Due to social media outlets such as Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, etc. it is so easy to see other people’s lives and begin to envy them. Here’s the thing, social media is really just a highlight reel for most people. Of course people are going to post their vacations, yacht parties, fancy hotels, new shoes but you haven’t the slightest idea what they went through to get those things; whether they’re positive or negative.

Seeing a tweet from someone announcing their accolades may make you feel like you’re behind or you’re not doing enough; again you don’t know what they went through to make this accomplishment, nor do you really know if the work they’re announcing accolades for is all that great. You only see what people want you to see, ultimately social media is just a window into the brands and personas that people create for themselves. You, my friend have your own brand to build, and when you’re so focused and enthralled in your own journey, you practically have tunnel vision. Other people’s journeys and blessings shouldn’t even be on your radar because those are just distractions from the blessing God himself has customized FOR YOU.

Focus on your focus, so you can feed yourself boo.

Stay In Your Lane:

Once again, due to the access social media gives us to other people’s lives, it’s so easy to get distracted from our very own lives, this is the part where I tell you STAY IN YOUR LANE.

Explore the things that YOU are passionate about and great at, just because the people surrounding you have chosen a path thats lead them to happiness and success, it doesn’t mean you’ll get the same outcome because that is not your lane.

For instance, during my college days I was having a hard time finding a job one summer and that same summer a few of my friends got a job that paid great (for college students) working at a well-known insurance company. Well, I wanted a piece of the pie too and so I applied...and I didn’t get the job, I applied again...once again I was on my Tommy steez, “I aint have no job mannnn.” This definitely put me in a slump, my friends were making enough money to pay bills, go on vacations, shop, do all the things a young college student desires to do and all I could do was pay for train fare and an occasional Subway sandwich.

One day I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and stop assuming that just because God had this blessing for my friends it was mine by association; so I applied to an internship with a public relations firm that led to a paid freelance position (and a lifelong friendship and professional reference). I even got a second job where I got paid to do practically nothing but study and work on my magazine lol, all because I stayed in my lane.

While other people’s blessings may seem amazing, they are just that, other people’s blessings and you have your own blessing just waiting for you. I promise, you’ll reach it quicker as soon as you veer out of ol’ girls lane with 20k followers on IG posting bomb vacation photos and stay in your own lane.

What God Has For You Is For You

I don’t know about you guys, but the few times I’ve felt envious of other people’s lifestyles and successes, I immediately ask God for forgiveness because he took his time to map out a journey specifically for me and my ungrateful ass is worried about why it’s not like someone else’s. Your creator knows you better than you know yourself and has instilled a passion and/or talent in you that can in some way change the world, touch lives and inspire someone, do his plan justice and trust the journey he’s mapped out for you. God made you uniquely you and your journey is uniquely yours, so please do yourself and him a favor by venturing on this journey and enjoy it, learn from it and grow.

Your current workplace may not be all that you dreamed of but I guarantee you if you focus on your focus, it certainly won’t be your finish line.

I hope this 'You Betta Werk' post was of help to you.

If you don't like who you work for, find a way to make it work for you! In the meantime, YOU BETTA WERK BOO!

-XoXo,

Mani
