The 40 Hour Werk Week

Between my retail job and PR contract I work about 40-50 hours/week. During this 40-50 hours my labor contributes to millions of dollars that only the higher-ups and owners of these companies will get to see. Think about it, you wake up and invest about 40 hours worth of your time, work ethic and energy into making someone else rich; sometimes your emotions become invested, only to make enough for a few splurges and to survive until the next paycheck.

The companies I work for generate millions a day, the retail store I work for alone; thousands and my physical labor doesn’t even get me .5% of the profit generated. FYI: this post is not to shame or deter you from working for someone else but it is to motivate you to use your current job to invest in your future so that you too can make millions from your own company/brand.

Girl,Get To the Point...

The Point:

Don’t allow your job to leave you tired and unmotivated. The same time and energy you put into furthering someone else’s dream, multiply that effort by 10 and put it towards your own goals .

But I’m so busy, I have no time...MAKE TIME! I challenge you to put 40 hours/week towards furthering your personal career goals and watch how far it takes you. This time can be spent networking, brainstorming ideas, writing business plans, researching, reading self-help books, etc.

Sit down one day and get a planner or calendar to thoroughly plan out ways to allocate your time towards your personal goals.

Before heading to work, try waking up two hours earlier than usual and use that time to read a book in reference to your career goals/self-help or spend time researching the industry you aspire to be in. When you take your break; find a quiet place, relax and brainstorm business ideas, if you’re a blogger like myself you could use that time to think of blog posts ideas, or a graphic designer could use that time to come up with new visual ideas and so forth.

Take some time out to search for networking events, order business cards and use your off days to get out there! Network and even sharpen your skills at seminars and conferences related to your goals. If you can go out with your friends to parlay on the weekends, you can make time to exchange ideas, information and even advice with like-minded individuals. Afterall, you never know who you might meet and who you may come across that has just as much faith in your vision as you, or they may have the resources to help you bring that vision to fruition.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

Don’t spend the rest of your life investing your energy and focus into someone else’s vision, you too have a purpose, make time for it.

I hope this 'You Betta Werk' post was of help to you.

If you don't like who you work for, find a way to make it work for you! In the meantime, YOU BETTA WERK BOO!

-Mani, XoXo
