Earlier this week I came across a video of Steve Harvey titled, "Steve Harvey Talks Jumping." I immediately thought it would be a comedic video, considering Steve Harvey is a comedian-well he's also a man who has faced a number of trials on his road toward success and he's one of the few successful people who are transparent about their downfalls and failures.

When I clicked play, I did not get my well needed laugh for the day, instead I got so much more. When Steve Harvey discusses jumping, he isn't talking about in a literal since, but a mental/spiritual sense. He spoke about the gifts God has bestowed upon each of us, there is not one person on this Earth that isn't gifted with something, whether it's teaching, singing, being a good listener,etc.-but so many of us let those gifts go by the wayside because we're afraid, using these gifts are out of our comfort zones- the only way to escape that comfort zone is to jump!

For those of you reading this that are unsure what exactly your gift is, it may be helpful to write a list of all the things you're naturally great at, then write a list of all of the things you enjoy doing; things you could do the rest of your life for free. It won't all make sense to you in one night but try and find the connection between the things you're talented at and the things you enjoy doing. There's nothing like having a career you thoroughly enjoy. If you can't think of anything ask those close to you, "Hey, what's something you noticed I'm gifted at?" For all you know your gift could be being personable and lifting people's spirits and trust, there are plenty of people in the world who would pay for that.

We've all come up with reasons as to why we can't accomplish our goals; lack of money, no transportation, unsupportive families, etc. These reasons are called excuses, which are tools that build monuments of absolutely, nothing.

Take this time to reflect and be honest with yourself, ask yourself, "What's holding me back?" and write down each and everything you can think of that's keeping you from accomplishing your goals. Once you write these things down look over them thoroughly and combat your excuses with a list of ways to achieve your goals despite your obstacles. I guarantee you, once you do this your dreams will seem a lot more tangible.

Rome wasn't built in a day, success is a process. When you jump, it may take a minute for your parachute to send you afloat, you may struggle finding the parachute, but if you never jump you'll never know what it feels like to fly.

I know you're reading this and thinking, "Okay, since you know it all when are you gonna jump?" I'm jumping right now. Prior to starting this blog I hesitated because I didn't have a DSLR camera, my Macbook was in the shop, I have no car and can't afford a photographer. My solution- I asked for a camera for Christmas (those that don't ask don't receive), I saved to fix my laptop, I hop my bougie behind on public transportation and if my boyfriend or sister can't take photos of me, I grab my handy dandy tripod that I invested in and I make it happen.

Moral of the story is, nothing and noone can keep you from flying. If you want to reach your goals get out of your own way, stop making excuses and instead make a way.

No one said the Glo' up would be easy.
